This latest Dragon kit now provides these exact components to build the Desert Fox’s halftrack mount. Furthermore, as it’s a 2-in-1 kit, modelers can choose to build a regular Sd.Kfz.250/3 command halftrack as well. The kit is based on Dragon’s most up-graded Sd.Kfz.250 Smart Kit version, but now modelers can build an Sd.Kfz.250/3 to the very latest contemporary standards, as well as “Greif” for desert operations
Germany produced a total of about 4,250 Sd.Kfz.250 light halftracks from June 1941 till October 1943, and the family included a great many different variants. One important type was the Sd.Kfz.250/3 leichte Funkpanzerwagen, which was a command vehicle fitted with additional radios. This 5.35-ton halftrack was easily identified by a frame antenna mounted above the troop compartment, and the addition of special radio sets depending on the actual vehicle configuration. A crew of four operated this vehicle type that was typically attached to motorized units.
